Our house is on stilts!
Most are in Brisbane. The “Queenslander” house is designed to keep cool. The insulation provided by having your house on the ground is not good here in the heat, so houses are raised up on stilts to allow a breeze to run under the house. Many houses have built garages under the actual house, but you still see some that are just perched precariously on stilts. It’s a bit unnerving for Vancouverites who are used to earthquake-proof buildings!
