The Sunshine Coast

Much nicer than the Gold Coast (south of Brisbane) is the Sunshine Coast (north of Brisbane). Noosa Heads is a delightful town with great beaches, beautiful walks along the heads, good surfing, terrific restaurants and our very first koala-in-the-wild spotting.

Contrary to popular overseas belief, koalas aren't quite as cute and cuddly as their stuffed equivalents. First of all, they are the animal equivalent of a grumpy old man. They also stink. A lot. But nonetheless, we were delighted to spot one in the wild after six months in the country.
