Waiting for the Cane Train
North Queensland is sugar cane country. We had no idea there could be so many hundreds of square kilometers of crops dedicated to satisfying our collective sweet tooth. We know that in ranching areas it is considered unpatriotic to be a vegetarian - we're sure that here it's frowned upon to be diabetic. When cane is harvested, it is transported to the sugar mills in little "cane trains". There is narrow-gauge track all over the countryside, even through people's front yards.
