Carma
After our experiences with Arthur in Europe, we have great empathy for backpackers with car problems. Clifford has been a Model-A Ford so far, and we want to keep that going by preserving our Car Karma. We met Scott and Vicki, a Scottish brother and sister, at the side of the Stuart Highway – not far from where Peter Falconio went missing – with a burst radiator hose. The problem was too big to fix with duct tape alone, so we gave them a tow to the next town, where there was a mechanic. We got in around sundown, so we stayed with them in the dodgiest caravan park, where the kitchen looked like She-Lob’s lair. We made dinner (outside) while Scott and Vicki regaled us with tales of hostile locals, mango rash, and fruit-picking in Bundaburg.
